Greyhounds are quite lazy in general and only really need 2 x 20 minute walks a day though will do more if you want them to.
They are normally anywhere from about 18 months upwards when they retire. Some might be younger as they prefer the sofa to racing.
We do rehome with cats and other small animals though sometimes it does take a little longer to find the right one. Look in our gallery and guess who is the boss
We provide a lead, muzzle and coat. All dogs are neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. The microchip will also be re registered to the new owner as well. We now also offer 4 weeks free Pet plan insurance to get you started.
We normally carry out a home check to ensure you live where you say you do. We look at the garden to ensure it is secure with ideally a six foot fence. If you are in rented accommodation we like to see written permission from your landlord that they are happy for you to have a dog.
Like any organisation we rely on donations to look after the hounds before they retire. We normally ask for a minimum donation of £150 for which you get a lead, muzzle and coat. All you then need is a bed and food.
We do not recommend this as they may still chase and ignore your calls to come back. The other danger is that they can get injured very easily if they catch on anything or get their feet in a hole.
As part of the process we do carry out home check to ensure the accommodation is suitable and that the garden is secure. Greyhounds do not do stairs very well so normally limit to 1st floor flats only
Some kennels do board and we find they are more settled due to being in an environment they have been used. The staff at these kennels are also used to the breed and what the pampered needs are. One based in Wickford we work with is based at the Gable Kennel who can be contacted on 01268 732039. www.gable-brk.com
